What is a Thriller?

We started of to look at The Unusual Suspects what constitutes a good thriller. We started at looking at the the poster. talking about when you look at the poster what relates it to be a thriller.

  • Twist in plot
  • Hidden identity
  • violence
  • good vs. evil
  • glimpses of whats happened
  • protagauist vs. antagonist
  • extra audience information, compared to character
  • dark lighting
  • murder
  • dramatic music
  • criminals
  • police
  • death
  • mystery
  • alot of smoking
how the lighting is formed  wheather is natural light or artificial.



we also deconstructed the poster and looked at what we could see in the image (denoted) and what was implied (connotation)

  •  5 men in a police line up 
  • they are all dressed differently 
  • one is in a cream suit 
  • they are all differant heights 
  • no one is smiling 
  • one is wearing a red shirt 
  • man on the end is grasping his hand 
  • one has a porsche jacket 
  • one has his hands in his pocket 
  • leather guy has an aggessive stance 
  • horantal lines behind them 
  • tallest in the middle like a pyramid 
  • red front title 
  • man in cream is wearing a tie 

connotations

  • men are in  trouble in police line up one of them is guilty 
  • all in the same situation together 
  • it may imply that he is a different character
  • they've been caught 
  • red represents danger  
  • holding arm for discomfort to hide pain
  • porsche jacket symbolises false identity
  • hands in pockets looks hard tough
  • lines represent bars of the prison cell
  • tallest formation hardness going up
  • tie man shows good guy, protagonist.
